What is Ethical Hacking?

Ethical hacking and ethical hacker are terms used to describe hacking performed by a company or individual to help identify potential threats on a computer or network. 

An ethical hacker attempts to bypass system security and search for any weak points that could be exploited by malicious hackers.

Hackers have various motivations for breaking into secure systems. Therefore, it is important to understand not only how attackers exploit systems, but also the probable reasons behind the attacks.

As Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War, “If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat.”

It is the duty of system administrators and network security professionals to guard their infrastructure against exploits by knowing the enemies who seek to use the same infrastructure for their own purposes. One of the best ways to do this is to hire an ethical hacker—someone who has all of the skills of a malicious hacker, but is on the client’s side.

In simple,

Ethical = Legal

Hacking = to gain access to someone system or network without permission

That means...

Ethical + Hacking = to gain access to someone system or network with legal government permission.

• Grey hat hacker 

but hackers are categorized in many different types...

• Script kiddie
• Suicide hacker
• Hacktivist
• Red hat hacker
• Blue hat hacker
• Green hat hacker
• Social media hacker
